New Appointment for LeadersFor

Traditionally, Fellowship International missionaries often end up in tough parts of the world. This has certainly been true for Peter and Cheryl Hambrey, who ministered for almost three decades in Pakistan and Kazakhstan. Peter now takes up a new role in LeadersFor.

Peter Hambrey came to faith in Christ while a student at the University of Manchester, England. He developed a heart for the lost and ministry skills through association with the Navigators in England, then Canada, and moved into formal ministry training at Ontario Theological Seminary (now Tyndale) and Melrose Baptist Church, Toronto, ON.

Cheryl came to Christ in her early 20s and worked in campus ministry in Cleveland, Ohio and London, ON before marrying Peter. The Hambreys were appointed with Fellowship International in 1985 and left for ministry in Pakistan in 1987.

Peter and Cheryl worked in Pakistan in evangelism and field leadership for 11 years before moving to Almaty, Kazakhstan in 2000 where Peter exercised his gifts in leadership development and as pastor of the international church in Almaty. Cheryl directed the Centre of Hope, a counseling and support group ministry with emphasis on ministry to, and training of, local Christian leaders. This ministry also had an international impact. Tightening restrictions on religious activities made it impossible for the Hambreys to continue to minister in Kazakhstan and the decision was reluctantly made to return to Canada.   But the Lord has opened new doors of opportunity. The Hambreys are being “retreaded” for new roles in Fellowship International. Peter has taken on an administrative role with  LeadersFor, a ministry of Fellowship International dedicated to training pastors and lay leaders around the world who are unable to leave their ministry assignments for formal theological education.
