The Kids of Summer

This summer many Fellowship Baptist Churches are going to be working hard to love children into the Kingdom of God. Last summer, the “Sardis Kids” made a huge impact on the lives of children in the Congo through a Fellowship Aid and International Relief (FAIR) project to help combat malaria. Over $800 was raised.

Our Sardis Kids summer Sunday School theme was ZOOPLOSION and each week we had a visiting “zoologist” who taught us odd and fun facts about animals. The second week into the program our zoologist, Judy Fowler, had mosquitoes on her mind. She made an awesome paper mache mosquito that we named SKEETER. She told the kids about malaria and how a simple net could save the lives of so many children. The next week our mosquito net project began. We had six weeks to raise money and the kids did an outstanding job. Our motivation was 1 John 3:16-18. The kids proved they were ready to put their faith into action. They washed and vacuumed their parents’ and grandparents’ cars, they watered plants and gardens, they collected bottles and did all sorts of odd jobs. As a group we had a CUPCAKE SUNDAY and invited the church family to support us in our project. After the morning service people were invited to drop into our zoo room and make a donation while enjoying a cupcake decorated by the kids. The response was overwhelming and we ran out of cupcakes. The kids cheered wildly when they heard how much they had raised. What a privilege to give to help the kids and their families in the Congo.
