Training of Trainers: LeadersFor Workshop

Summer2011 - Hanni teachingThe 45 men and two women sit quietly and attentively, gulping down every morsel of information dished out to them by the two Canadian facilitators. These unassuming men and women are pastors and church leaders. They are the real heroes on the ground

This is the Training of Trainers workshop that CMA (Christian Mission Aid) in partnership with LeadersFor has been running for the past four days in Nairobi.

The pastors and church leaders have travelled far and wide to be here, some come from neighboring Uganda while the rest are from some of the most rural and under developed corners of Kenya. The aim of this unique workshop is to empower church leaders to be able to train and bring up other church leaders in their own churches.

The objective of LeadersFor is to empower pastors with skills and knowledge of how to be good and effective leaders so that they can train others in the same way. They use a Biblical model to empower these pastors and church leaders. There is a big need for pastors to be better prepared to effectively carry out all the work within the church.

Paul Harbourne, a pastor from Collingwood, ON, whose church helped sponsor the workshop, says this is just the beginning of a long term commitment. “We intend to have these kinds of workshops at least three times a year for the next five years. We have only begun to lay the foundation here. We want to build churches that produce leaders that reproduce churches!”
